Ergonomic Bootcamp = 4X ROI at Glazer’s

Ergo-ology partnered with Glazer’s Beer & Beverage to address the leading operational risk in beverage distribution: Manual Material Handling. With a national network of warehouses, delivery fleets, and in-store merchandisers, Glazer’s workforce faces constant demands to move heavy, irregular loads under time pressure—tasks have potential to drive overexertion injuries. The initiative focused on translating ergonomic science into practical application and behavior change that reduce injury exposure without compromising throughput or customer service.

To address these challenges, Ergo ology developed a Manual Material Handling Bootcamp grounded in experiential learning. Classroom sessions introduced core concepts such as biomechanics, process decision-making, and exposure reduction principles. Hands-on practice then reinforced safer movement patterns through proper mechanics and effective use of equipment, while field coaching ensured real-time application on the job. The training was intentionally physical, allowing participants to internalize techniques, and supervisors were equipped as frontline mentors who modeled safe practices and helped remove barriers to adoption.

Piloted at four distribution centers since 2022, the program produced measurable results: a 16% reduction in workers’ compensation claims, annual deductible savings, and an overall 4X return on investment. These outcomes reflect fewer lost-time incidents, reduced fatigue-related interruptions, and productivity gains from smarter task design.

For distribution businesses, ergonomics is more than compliance—it is a strategic investment in workforce resilience and operational reliability. Ergo-ology’s Bootcamp, paired with engineering support and supervisor mentorship, transforms ergonomic science into repeatable practices that protect employees and strengthen the bottom line. Building on this success, Glazer’s is expanding the Bootcamp enterprise-wide. The rollout will scale the train-the-trainer model across its network, embed ergonomic metrics into operational scorecards, and combine engineering controls with ongoing supervisor mentorship. Leadership is also investing in digital learning, measurement systems, and localized coaching cohorts to accelerate adoption and surface high-value improvements. This sustained campaign positions ergonomics as a core business capability that enhances employee wellbeing, operational resilience, and long-term financial performance.
